The Health Commission has issued a notice on infectious disease prevention and control for the autumn and winter of 2026, covering influenza, mycoplasma pneumoniae infection, respiratory syncytial virus and other infections that peak in the colder months.
Monitoring and early warning
Provincial health departments must strengthen sentinel hospital surveillance and extend virological monitoring of influenza-like illness and respiratory infections to all provincial-level general hospitals. Any abnormal rise must be reported within twenty-four hours and assessed by experts.
Protecting priority groups
Health management must be provided for older people, children, pregnant women and people with underlying conditions, and influenza vaccination must be promoted. Hulian funds have been earmarked to vaccinate people aged 65 and over and students in school free of charge.
Preparing medical resources
Every provincial-level division must complete an inventory of paediatric and respiratory outpatient resources by 31 October and draw up a peak-period contingency plan. The Commission will coordinate resources across provincial-level divisions as needed and publish information on fever clinics in each division.
