Ministry of the Interior 护联内务部

The Ministry of the Interior is the department of the Central Government responsible for household registration, administrative divisions, grassroots governance, social affairs and emergency relief.

Main functions

  1. Administer household registration and identity cards and guide the building of the basic population information database.
  2. Draft proposals for adjusting administrative divisions, process submissions for approval and administer boundary lines.
  3. Guide the building of grassroots self-governing organisations and community governance.
  4. Coordinate emergency management, disaster relief and the allocation of relief supplies.
  5. Draft and implement policies on social assistance, social welfare and elderly care services.
  6. Administer marriage and adoption registration and funerary affairs.
  7. Guide the operational work of local public security organs of the provincial-level divisions.
  8. Administer place names and compile materials on administrative divisions.
  9. Undertake other matters assigned by the Central Government.
