Health Commission 护联卫生健康委员会
The Health Commission is the department of the Central Government responsible for health. It formulates and implements policy on public health, medical services, disease prevention and control, and pharmaceuticals.
Main functions
- Draft plans and policies for health development and organise their implementation.
- Administer disease prevention and control and the surveillance and reporting of infectious diseases.
- Organise emergency response to public health incidents and emergency medical rescue.
- Approve the establishment of medical institutions and administer the practice of health professionals.
- Draft the essential medicines system and policies on pharmaceuticals and medical consumables, and supervise their implementation.
- Administer maternal and child health, healthy ageing and occupational health.
- Organise food safety risk surveillance and assessment and issue safety standards.
- Coordinate basic medical insurance, medical assistance and commercial health insurance policies.
- Undertake other matters assigned by the Central Government.
